On Monday, September 29, 2025, our world shifted forever. Our father, Stephen G. “Steve” Casale, 82, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully at his home. Though we take comfort in knowing he is finally at rest, the space he leaves behind in our hearts is immeasurable.
Born January 2, 1943, in Williamsport, Steve was the son of the late Charles H. and Kathleen (Clarkson) Casale. He grew up in this community, where he cultivated a mischievous spirit, cherished friendships, and a deep sense of belonging that followed him throughout his life. A graduate of Williamsport Area High School, Steve went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army before beginning a long and dedicated career as a supervisor at Thermacore. Yet if you asked him, his greatest achievements had little to do with résumés or titles. His true legacy was measured in love, laughter, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of others.
Steve was a man who found beauty in simplicity and adventure in the everyday. His passion for the outdoors was nothing short of contagious—whether casting a fly on Antes Creek, drilling a hole through the ice on a freezing morning at Rose Valley, or sharing stories about the fox, deer, and the occasional snapping turtles that seemed to be recurring characters in his life. A gifted storyteller with an artist’s eye, Steve painted canvases as he painted his jokes—with color, detail, warmth, and humor. His sense of humor was legendary, his wit quick, and his delight in performing magic tricks or sharing a corny joke could brighten even the darkest day.
And then there was his love of food. Especially breakfast. If you stopped by Harvest Moon on any given morning, where he probably told you a joke or Mulberry Street Café on any Friday, where he was known to so many people as “Uncle Steve.” He was a fixture at those tables—swapping stories, sparking laughter, and keeping the waitstaff on their toes with his gentle ribbing.
Above all, Steve was a family man. He is survived by his daughter, Carin J. Frantz (Bill) of Hotchkiss, CO, 2 sons, Jonathan S. Casale (Stacy) of Williamsport, and Keanu Bunting (Hannah) of Williamsport. He leaves behind his brother, Jeff Casale (Claire) of Asheboro, NC, along with many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who loved him as their own.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his niece Heather Casale, his nephew Andrew "Drew" Casale, his brother Clark, and, most of all, the love of his life, our mother, JoAnn K. Casale, who passed away in 2019. We take comfort in picturing them together again—likely him fishing, her reading a book, laughing, and yes, even bickering a little, just as they always did.
A visitation will be held from 6–8 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 West Fourth St., Williamsport. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s name to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 711 W. Edwin St., Williamsport, PA 17701. Supporting his parish and community was something that always brought him pride.
For those who knew him, you’ll understand when I say this: Heaven just became a little brighter, a little warmer, and certainly a little louder with laughter. For those of us left behind, we will honor him the best way we know how—by fishing, laughing, and telling his stories for years to come.
