Roberta A. "Birdie" Harris, 78, formerly of 505 Center Street, passed away peacefully at Embassy of Loyalsock on Friday, May 20, 2022.
Roberta was born July 10, 1943, the daughter of John W. and Anna (Davies) Burd.
She attended school in Nisbet and was later involved with the Hope Enterprise program in Williamsport. Throughout her adult years up until she became ill in May 2021, Roberta was an almost daily rider of the River Valley Transit buses and considered those drivers among her friends. She was a social butterfly who enjoyed phone calls, eating out, shopping, Senior Center activities, high-rise building events, parties of all sorts and more recently the many social activities at Embassy. She was famous there for her Bingo skills and card-playing abilities. Roberta was currently participating in PEER training at Embassy and was loved by the staff and residents there.
Roberta was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Williamsport, and was a regular attendee at the Wednesday First Night dinners as well as the First Friends Bible study. She was also connected with Pine Street United Methodist Church, including enjoying the singles’ dances there for many years. Roberta had a strong Christian faith and did not hesitate to tell others about the love of Jesus. She especially enjoyed joining the choir to sing the Hallelujah chorus each Easter.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was predeceased by her husband Teddy, sisters Joanne Nittinger and Barbara Harris, brother John Donald Burd, and sister-in-law Irene Burd.
Roberta is survived by her brother-in-law Neal Nittinger of Keiser, Oregon and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 604 Market St., Williamsport, with visitation at the church from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Embassy of Loyalsock for the compassionate and skilled care they provided to Roberta for the last year. The family would also like to thank Pastor and Mrs. John Piper and Pastor Rick Waters for the visits, cards and spiritual care that meant so much to Roberta.
