Robert S. "Bob" Rook, 81, of Cogan Station, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at UPMC Williamsport. Surviving is his loving wife of 16 years, Marlene (Pagano) McElroy-Rook.
Born September 9, 1942, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Pauline F. (Ort) Rook.
Bob was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he returned to Williamsport, where he built a life and a family. Bob was a dedicated laborer at Textron Lycoming, from which he retired, and later enjoyed his time working at White Deer Golf Course as a starter.
In his leisure, Bob was an avid golfer, a passion that he pursued with enthusiasm. He was also a skilled card player, who always had to see the flop, often found in the company of friends. Bob's ability to connect with people was evident through his active membership in several social groups. Bob's love for sports extended to being a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Robert P. Rook (Tamra) of Jersey Shore and Cheryl R. Butters (Randy) of Browns Mills, New Jersey; two step-children Darren J. McElroy (Meghan) of Elizabethtown and Christopher T. McElroy (Andrea) of Linden; seven grandchildren, Ashli, Bo (Kristi), Alicia (Brad), Michael, Brianna, Lee, and Luke, as well as four step-grandchildren, Tyler, Kenzy, Emily, and Bryce; two great-grandchildren, Makenzi and Maddox; and his sister, Paula Long (Roy) of Largo, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann Rook, who passed away in 2007.
A visitation to honor the life of Bob will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, August 10 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery.
