Mary Wainwright

Mary (Grace) Wainwright, 94, of Williamsport, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at her home while surrounded by her family.

Born on February 22, 1930, in Shorter, Alabama, Mary was orphaned and raised by her loving grandmother, Cora Garrett. Mary wed the love of her life, the late Alvin Wainwright on November 11, 1950. Together they would have celebrated 59 years of marriage before his passing on November 1, 2009. For many years, Mary and Alvin lived and raised their family in Philadelphia. While residing in Philadelphia, she worked as a seamstress at Pincus Bros., Inc. and was a deaconess at Zion Baptist Church. After retirement, Mary moved to Williamsport to reside with her daughter. She will be remembered as the loving and devoted mother and grandmother she was to her family, and missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her son, Anthony Wainwright (Sheila) of Omaha, NE; a daughter, Vanessa Stewart (Gregory) of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Devon, Nicole, Della, Meesha, Gregory, Jr., Kennetta, and Anya; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandon, Devon, Jr., Derrick, Taylor, Brianna, Brielle, Yaqeen, Kion, Nur, Saadi, Edward, Kenton, Trenton, and Mariana.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no services.
