Kenneth Poorman, Sr. Obituary

Kenneth B. "Ken" Poorman, Sr., 89, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 16 years, Carol A. (Ditty) Poorman, on June 14, 1992.

Born on July 24, 1935, in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late William H. and Alice (Haney) Poorman.

Ken was a 1953 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, Ken was employed as a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution at Muncy, retiring in 1991 after many years of dedicated work.

Ken was a man of faith, having been a member of the former Third Street United Methodist Church and later becoming a member of First Church Williamsport. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and guidance throughout his years. Even after losing his sight, he could be found listening to his Bible app. In addition to his faith, Ken was a member of the Citizens Hose Co. in Lock Haven.

Ken enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching Fox News, the Hallmark Channel, and Highway to Heaven, and was an avid Penn State football fan. Most of all Ken loved and cherished spending time with his family and dogs.

Surviving are his children Kenneth B. Poorman, Jr. (Sharon) of Doylestown, Roxanna L. Welter of Williamsport, Eric J. Matthews (Cheryl) of Marsh Hill, and Darren W. Matthews (Heidi) of Oval; a brother, Francis E. Poorman of Lock Haven; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

A funeral service to honor the life of Ken will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 17 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
