Judy Baker Obituary

Judy E. Baker, 74, of South Williamsport, peacefully passed away March 16, 2024 after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.

Judy was the daughter of the late Ira L. and Nancy E. (Keiffer) Carpenter, of Lock Haven.

Judy was a graduate of Berwick High School, class of 1967. She then went on to study radiology at The Williamsport Hospital, graduating in 1969.

While in the radiology program, Judy met her soulmate, the brother of one of her instructors. On August 1, 1969, Judy and the late Kenneth W. Baker were married. Together they shared 48 years prior to Kenny’s passing in 2018.

Judy held various positions throughout her work life, including supervisor, within the x-ray department of Williamsport Hospital. After nearly 20 years, she chose to leave her career when receiving news of a baby girl ready for adoption. Judy’s most adored role was being a stay-at-home mother to their daughter. She then went on to work for South Williamsport School District as a library and lunchroom aide and, most recently, as a cashier at Target in Muncy.

In her free time, Judy enjoyed taking day trips and vacations with her family, going to lunch with her “Target girls”, sending the same birthday card back-and-forth to her best friend, Pat, and reading her “cowbilly” romance books. She was also a huge fan of Hallmark movies, especially ones starring Ryan Pavey! Judy most looked forward to family vacations to Hatteras, NC, which had been a long-standing annual tradition.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Judy was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul LaRocque, sister-in-law, Prudence Wilson, great nephew, Brandon Wilson, and adored Cocker Spaniel, Colt.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jackie Zielewicz (Jason), sister, Jo LaRocque, and extended family including aunts, uncles, niece, nephew, great niece, great nephews, and cousins.  She is also survived by her beloved grand-Goldens, Kimber and Remington.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. A visitation will be held on Friday March 22, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Knight-Confer Funeral Home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Westfield, PA.
