Being a camping fanatic, John was a member of the Susquehanna Winnebago and Good Sam camping clubs.
If John was not traveling, he was volunteering his time to his community. He was a life member of the West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association, served 15 to 20 years as Hepburn Township Supervisor, was a member of the Lycoming County Agricultural Land and Preservation Board, and a member of the Hepburn Baptist Church.
