Joan Demarest Obituary

Joan S. Demarest, 87, of Williamsport, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Edenbrook South.

Born September 17, 1938 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late William J.H. and Letitia (Gramley) Sunderland. Joan knew the value of family, often stepping in and helping where needed. Her work ethic was indescribably strong and while she was straight-forward with what she wanted to say, she was never disrespectful.

Joan graduated from Williamsport Area High School, and held employment positions at various businesses around Williamsport. Her final career stop was with Springs Window Fashions, where she worked for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Polish Club and the VFW Post #7863. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed puzzles, playing quoits, shuffleboard, cards, especially Setback, and completing crossword puzzles.

Joan is survived by her four sons, Kevin Hoffman (Theresa) of Linden, Paul Fischer (Karla) of Montoursville, Horatio Demarest (Michele) of Jersey Shore and Raymond Demarest of Williamsport; a daughter, Melissa Keller of Williamsport; a brother, Don Sunderland; eight grandchildren, Derek, Danny, Niklas, Megan, Dane, Cole, Madison, and Miranda; seven great-grandchildren, Elias, Mazley, Rylan, Maylee, Dean, Lily, and Zoey, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David “Red” Keller; six brothers, William, Bob, Chill, Dick, Ron, and Kenneth Sunderland; and two sisters, Gladys Sayetta and Arlene Morrison.

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
