Jean Tinney Obituary

 

Jean M. Tinney, 86, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at AristaCare at Loyalsock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernest Tinney on January 31, 2004.

Born March 24, 1933, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Raymond W. Sr. and Ruby J. (Dieffenbach) Bowers.

Jean was employed by Weis Markets for over 40 years prior to retiring in 2017. She was an avid bowler and continued to bowl in leagues until she turned 80. Jean loved animals large and small. She had created a pseudo sanctuary in her back yard full of rehabilitated birds, squirrels, chipmunks, the occasional deer, and even a bear once. Her unparalleled love and selflessness will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her children, John K. Tinney (Terri Chapman), of Williamsport, Katie Tinney-Heck (John), of Williamsport, and Sherry S. Tinney (Todd Bower), of Williamsport, seven grandchildren, Nicholas Tinney (Teresa Cheromcha), Hutch Tinney (Jennifer), Matt Kiehl (Sara), Jessica Baker (Jordan), Tracey Chapman Josh Heck (Kirsten), Nicholas Heck (Ann), and five great-grandchildren, Max and Cooper Tinney, Melainia Stopper (Eric), Caitlinn and Leah Chapman, a brother Richard A. Bowers (Beverly) of Port St. Lucie FL and a special niece Linda Sue Grube (Jeff) of Birdsboro.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother Raymond W. Bowers Jr., and a sister Barbara Joan Bower.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd, Williamsport, PA 17701.
