Jean Rissel Obituary

     Jean M. Rissel, 96, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Rose View Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John M. Heltman and her second husband, Otis Rissel.

     Born April 30, 1927, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah (Winter) Stroble.

     A 1945 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and was co-owner of Rissel TV Repair alongside her husband, Otis.

     Jean was the longest-living member of Heshbon Park United Methodist Church, since 1938. Her love for excitement was evident in her fondness for casinos, where she enjoyed the thrill of chance. She found pleasure in the simple joys of playing cards, bingo, and the anticipation of revealing the hidden prizes of scratch-off tickets. Her shopping trips to Boscov's were not just errands but adventures, as she delighted in the hunt for the perfect piece of jewelry to add to her cherished collection. Jean's passion for puzzles reflected her patient and meticulous nature, always ready to piece together the small details to reveal the bigger picture.

     Above all, Jean's heart belonged to her family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. Each moment spent with them was treasured, each memory a precious keepsake. Her kind and selfless nature made her a pillar of strength and comfort to her loved ones, who always knew they could turn to her for support and unconditional love.

     Surviving are her children, David J. Heltman (Kathy) of Cogan Station and Susan H. Lepley (Steven) of Williamsport; stepchildren, David Rissel (Gloria) of Williamsport, Ronald Rissel (Hanh) of AZ, Diana Rissel of AZ, and Nonnie Persun of Montgomery; 13 grandchildren, Kelly Stevens (Don) of NY, Nathan Lepley (Jess) of NC, Joel Lepley (Ashley) of Williamsport, Brian Heltman (Korine) of Williamsport, Brenda Flores of TX, Ericka Gravis of NY, Michael Pearson of Williamsport, Lori Whitaker of WV, Amanda Rall of TX, Tim Rissel (Tiffany) of South Williamsport, Deborah Steckler (Patrick) of Chambersburg, and Rachel and James Rissel both of AZ; 16 great-grandchildren Brianna, Jonathan, Zachary, Emma, Gracyn, Cainan, Joslin, Willow, Laney, Amanda, Zachary, Bash, Tess, Nick, Aubrey, and Ryan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

     In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, John, Leo, and Buck, and her sister Betty Shaffer.

     A celebration of Jean’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 14, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery.
