It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Gloria Jean Griess, who passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025 at Edenbrook Nursing Home in Williamsport, PA
Born to James and Sophia Bay, Gloria lived a life centered around love, family, and resilience. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Sheldon Griess, her parents, her brother Robert Bay, her sister Gail Thomas (Bay) and her grandson Cooper Miles Powell.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Gloria started as a secretary for American Silk Label in Troy , PA, where she resided with her family. Gloria also spent many years working in the billing department at Troy Hospital and Robert Packer Hospital. In a remarkable testament to her determination, she earned her LPN license at the age of 51, proving it's never too late to chase your dreams.
But Gloria's proudest accomplishments were always her children and grandchildren. She loved nothing more than watching them grow, cheering them on at sports events, and to see them step into parenthood. Her joy was rooted in the simple, special moments: shopping days with her kids, family vacations to Ocean City, Maryland, watching movies, and blasting boyband music with a smile that lit up the room.
She is survived by her four children: Dawn Powell (Griess) and Rick Powell, Michele Harmon (Griess), Gregory Griess and wife Erin Griess, and Krista Dixon (Griess). Grandchildren: Madison, Sydney, and Bailey Powell, and Mackenzie Head (Powell), Hailei and Hayden Harmon, Aubrey and Marissa Griess, and Ewan, Cash, and Knox Dixon.
Gloria had a heart full of love and a spirit that made everyone around her feel like family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly.
