Gene Glace Altier, Sr., 86, of Williamsport died Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Valley View Nursing Center. His loving wife of 36 years, Judith L. Altier, was by his side when the Lord took him home.
Born January 14, 1938 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Norman & Mary (Simcox) Brooks and the late James L. Altieri.
Gene was a graduate of Lock Haven High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sierra AD-18. After his time in the service, Gene had a short stint playing AA baseball with the Phillies organization.
Gene was the owner and operator of Williamsport Electric Motor Shop and the Williamsport Christian Bookstore. He retired from Colburn Industrial Supply in 2017.
Gene loved playing baseball. Throughout the 1980’s he was president of the Billtown Amateur Baseball League and player-manager of the Williamsport Twins at Bowman Field. Gene retired at the age of 60 as the oldest active player.
Gene was a born again Christian and loved singing old hymns.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gene G. Altier, Jr. of Williamsport, Megan Smith (Dan) of Frederica, DE and Rusty Foust (Rachel) of Kernersville, NC; siblings, Charles Altier (Joanne) of Lakeland, FL and Patricia Kieffer (Kenny) of Lock Haven and grandchildren, Mikayla, Mycah, and Myla Smith and Callie and Finley Foust.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Altier.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
