Doreen M. Mayer, 90, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Williamsport community, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at UPMC of Williamsport.
Born in Nottingham, England on September 11, 1935, to Arthur and Mabel J. (Stains) Warner, Doreen's warm spirit and nurturing soul were evident from her earliest days.
Doreen was the devoted wife of the late Carl J. Mayer, and loving mother to her four daughters, Katina “Tina” L. Frey (Keith), Tammy L. Beatty, Carlene J. Ganley (Charles), and Lorraine "Lori" M. Burger (Mike). She also leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister Patricia Stratton, who helped celebrate her 90th birthday with a trip to Hershey Lodge, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored immeasurably, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Doreen was dedicated to nourishing not only the minds but also the bodies of those around her. She served as a respected cook for the Loyalsock Area School District, the Williamsport Home, and ValleyCrest Residential Care in Apple Valley California as head cook for 10 years prior to her retirement. Outside of her work, Doreen's passion for flower gardening and landscaping allowed her to create spaces of beauty and tranquility which reflected her own inner grace. She took great pride in her lawn care and maintenance, approaching each task with an unmatched level of care and precision. Doreen was a woman of faith and member of the Methodist church community who loved Jesus.
Above all, Doreen's greatest interest was her family. Whether it was gathering for a holiday meal or simply enjoying each other's company, she was happiest when surrounded by loved ones. Doreen's nurturing presence was the cornerstone of her family, and her love and guidance have left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Special thank you to daughter Tammy, who lived with Doreen and helped provide exceptional care and loving comfort.
In keeping with Doreen’s wishes, there will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
Memorials may be made in Doreen’s honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1350 Broadway, Ste. 1530, New York, NY 10018.
