David L. Hartranft, affectionately known as Dave to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at UPMC of Williamsport.
Born on March 13, 1955, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Donald E. Hartranft and Doris L. (Gephart) Hartranft.
Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and upon returning from service, transitioned into life as a skilled farmer, nurturing the land with the same integrity and dedication that he brought to every endeavor. His military service was honored through his active involvement in veterans' organizations; he was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW-Duboistown, and the Republican League.
The tranquility of nature was where Dave felt most at home. Farming was not only a profession but also a passion. If he wasn’t tending to his farm, he could be found with a fishing rod in hand or setting off on a hunting trip. Boating also brought him immense peace and joy, providing memories that will be treasured by all who shared these experiences with him.
Though his parents and his brother, George A. Hartranft, preceded him in death, Dave's memory will be carried on through his family's lives. His devotion to family was the cornerstone of his life and is echoed through his beloved wife, Sarah E. (Young) Hartranft, his daughters Sherry Lee Brandau (Charlie), Megan L. Kepner, and Shannon L. Hartranft, and his step-son, Cody J. Mulberger. Dave's spirit will continue to shimmer brightly in the eyes of his grandchildren Lillian A. Kepner, Faith E. Kepner, Paige Daugherty (Cayman), Victoria R. Hartranft (Chris Johnson), step-grandchildren Ivory Rose, Lillian Grace, and Ava Marie Mulberger, and his great-grandson, Jasper. Dave also leaves behind to cherish his memory, four sister, Donna L. Goldy (Thomas), Sandra K. Lukowsky (Dennis), Virginia M. Bartron (Paul), and Phyllis C. Capps; nephews, Dustin Barton, Scott Barth, Dennis and Joseph Lukowsky, Justin and William Capps, and Sean Hartranft, and many extended family and friends.
A memorial service to honor Dave’s life will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. A visitation will be held prior from 5 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s honor to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, and/or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
