Barbara E. Levering, 65, of Cogan Station, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at her home. Born on January 14, 1960, in Williamsport, Barbara's life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and the love she had for her family.
Barbara's journey began as the beloved daughter of the late Robert D. Hibbler and Diane B. (Thompke) Hibbler. She grew up in Williamsport where she met and married the late James R. Levering, and together they raised a beautiful family. Barbara is survived by her loving children, James R. Levering, Jr. (Amanda), and Brittany J. Gohl (Tyree). She held a special bond with grandchild Zairek J. Gohl, and was also a proud grandmother to Jahkai L. Gohl, Nasim K. Gohl, Nadiyah G. Gates, Aurora R. Levering, and James R. Levering III, who brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind her brother, Richard Hibbler (Wendy), and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Barbara was also preceded in death by her daughter, Monica Rae Shearer, whose memories remained close to her heart, and brother Robert Hibbler.
Barbara's work ethic and talent were evident in her role at Pennsylvania College of Technology, where she served as a facility painting technician. Her skills extended far beyond the college walls. She was the go-to person to clean, decorate, rearrange a room, or fix something, like her tractor… she was always staying busy. Barbara also ran the Newberry Diner for a few years and worked in hospitality. Her strong-willed personality shone through in all aspects of her life, especially in her courageous fight against cancer.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and her spirituality was complemented by her love for the beauty of nature, which she expressed through her passion for flower gardening. Barbara found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as sun tanning by her swimming pool and vacationing at Ocean City, MD. Her cat Brutus was a constant companion, and together they enjoyed the tranquility of her lovingly tended home.
Barbara's role as an active grandmother was one she embraced wholeheartedly. She was a familiar face at her grandchildren's sports events and activities, always offering her support and encouragement. Barbara was an avid Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching Ohio State football with her loved ones. She was a source of strength and comfort to her family and will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew her.
A memorial service to honor the life of Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport.
