Allan Hamm Obituary

Allan E. Hamm, 90, formerly of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Celebration Villa of Loyalsock.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Louise M. (Helminiak), on February 6, 2024.

Born September 15, 1933, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Caroline A. (Reed) Hamm.

A graduate of South Williamsport Area High School, class of 1952, Allan's dedication to his country was evident through his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Allan retired as a hand nailer for Eastern Wood Products and was known by many as the friendly Sun Gazette rural route paper carrier, in Montgomery, for 40 years. His dedication to safety and service led him to work at the South Williamsport School District as a school police officer. Allan's community involvement was further demonstrated by his lifetime membership with the former First Ward Fire Company in South Williamsport, as a fire police.

Allan was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. His service to others extended to his long-term membership with the South Williamsport Lions Club and his volunteer work helping at First Ward Fire Company Bingo and carnivals. In his younger years, Allan was an active bowler and bowled in several leagues. Allan and his wife, Louise, loved traveling across the United States on many bus trips. In his free time, Allan could be found enjoying his flower garden.

Surviving are his four children, Joseph A. Hamm (Connie) of Montoursville, Sharon D. Geary (James) of Montgomery, Michael J. Hamm (Crystal) of Williamsport, and Kathy J. Pauling (Charles) of Allenwood; six grandchildren, Alex Hamm, Michelle Grimes (William), Jaimie Bragalone (Jerry), Eric Geary (Rebecca), Sarah Pauling, and Logan Pauling; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Hamm; and a sister, Shirley Karns.
