Merrill E. Leidhecker, Jr., 86, of Linden, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at AristaCare at Loyalsock after a brief stay. Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys M. (Saiers) Leidhecker.
Born May 5, 1933, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Merrill E. Leidhecker, Sr. and Sarah C. (Welshans) Leidhecker.
Merrill was a 1951 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was a carpenter all his life and was head carpenter for the Williamsport Area School District for 27 years.
He was a member of the former St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Merrill was an accomplished Eagle Scout who received the Silver Beaver award and the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow. He was also an advisor for Explorer Post #147 for 35 years. Merrill loved modern western square dancing, camping, and traveling with his motor home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ronald E. Leidhecker (Diane), of Cogan Station and Michael E. Leidhecker (Laura) of Knoxville Tennessee, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Donald E. Leidhecker (Gail), of Williamsport.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Richard A. “Dick” Leidhecker.
A memorial service to honor the life of Merrill will be held 11 a.m. Friday October 4, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, with the Rev. David Byerly officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
Burial will be in State Road Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
