Mary Forrest "Forey" (Birkenstock) Breitenbach

August 14, 1920 ~ May 30, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

     Mary Forrest "Forey" Breitenbach, 96, of Williamsport, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at AristaCare at Loyalsock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jack L. Breitenbach on December 6, 2005.

     Born August 14, 1920, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca (Brouse) Birkenstock.

     Mary was a graduate of Williamsport High School and received her associate’s degree in Music from the former Dickenson Seminary. Following graduation she was employed at her father’s book binding and printing company as an office manager and secretary. Most recently she worked for Aetna Life and Casualty Company for many years as a secretary.

     She was a lifetime member of the former Market Street United Methodist Church, where her grandfather, the Rev. David Brouse was officiant. Since then she remained a member as the church progressed to Wesley United Methodist Church to New Hope United Methodist Church, and currently First United Methodist Church-North Campus. Over the years she was very active in the church as a Sunday school teacher for 40 years, served as Secretary of United Methodist Women and treasurer of Preacher’s Aid Society for 20 years.

     Mary had a love for music and sang duets with her sister Annabelle throughout the Williamsport Area.

     Surviving are a son, Robert W. Breitenbach, of Takoma Park, Md.; two grandsons, Michael R. Breitenbach (Brooke), of New Castle and Paul A. Breitenbach (Mary), of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Aiden, of New Castle and Stone and Cora, both of Jacksonville, Fla.

     In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Hilsher.

     A viewing will be held from 6-­8 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. 

     Burial will be held private at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery.

     A memorial service to honor the life of Mary will be announced at a later date.

     In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to First United Methodist Church - North Campus, 604 Market St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or Preacher’s Aid Society, P.O. Box 24 Williamsport, PA 17703.
