John K. Hammond

     John K. Hammond, 80, of Watsontown, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019, at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty A. (Sheets) Hammond.

     Born February 22, 1939, in Syracuse N.Y., he was a son of the late Clarence L. and Lillian (Stark) Hammond.

     John was a 1957 graduate of Milton High School. After graduating he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He earned a master's degree from Penn State University. John worked for the Pennsylvania College of Technology for 31 years as an auto shop teacher until his retirement in 1998, where he was the head of his department.

     John was a member of Nisbet United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the National Education Association. He collected model trains and was a member of the Reading Model Railroad Club in West Milton. Most of all, John loved being a grandfather.

     Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John M. Hammond (Carol), of Nisbet; a daughter, Jennifer L. Hammond, of Williamsport; five grandchildren, William Hammond (Carrie), C.J. Hannan (Cara), Michael Hammond (Ashley), David Hammond (Jennifer) and Robert Hammond; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hammond (Denise), of Florida; and a sister, SaraJane Hammond, of Williamsport.

     A memorial service to honor the life of John will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 9, at Nisbet United Methodist Church, 155 W. Village Drive, South Williamsport, PA 17702 with the Rev. R. Bruce Wallace officiating.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the Penn College Fund, Institutional Advancement, DIF 65, Pennsylvania College of Technology, One College Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.
