James P. Mays, 60, of South Williamsport, died Friday, July 19, 2019.
Born Oct. 3, 1958, in Scranton, he was a son of Paul and Nettie Jones Mays.
James was a graduate of Wellsboro High School. He received a degree in HVAC from Pennsylvania College of Technology. James was a longtime former employee at Lunaire Limited where he was an HVAC specialist, traveling the world troubleshooting units he helped build. Most recently he worked at JPW and Ward Manufacturing.
Jim loved Basset Hounds, especially Rusty and Sarah Jane Smith, who he named after a character in his favorite TV show, Dr. Who. He also liked to watch old classic movies and horror movies. During his work travels he often brought back fireworks for the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve, which the neighbors thoroughly enjoyed.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah K. Ulbright; his mother, Nettie Mays; a sister, MaryAnn Jackson (Larry), of Wellsboro; stepchildren, Erica Turner (Craig Baker), of Williamsport, Vanessa LaBelle, of Palmyra, and Nicholas LaBelle, of Williamsport; step-grandchildren, Austin Baker, Ace and Amelia Cavanaugh, and Kristin LaBelle; and niece and nephew, Chris and Tommy Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Mays.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the church portico.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James' name may be made to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
