Frederick D. “Fred” Lowmiller, Sr., 87, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, August 9, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Betty J. (Vought) Lowmiller, on November 15, 2004.
Born August 24, 1931 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late John A. and Kathryn V. (Hafer) Lowmiller.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge he was employed by the Lycoming Housing Authority and Williamsport Area School District for many years until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed camping, motorcycles, fixing lawn mowers, collecting old irons, dancing polka, and cracking jokes. Fred was known for being the most unselfish person and could always be found helping anyone he could.
Surviving are his three sons, Frederick D. Lowmiller, Jr. of Williamsport, Raymond H. Lowmiller (Yvette Sladek) of Montoursville, and Brian A. Lowmiller of Williamsport, four grandsons; Nathan R. Mosier, Michael A. Lowmiller, Tyler J. Lowmiller, and Devin J. Lowmiller, and one brother, Robert Lowmiller (Phyllis) of Mansfield.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin, Raymond, and John Lowmiller.
A funeral service to honor the life of Fred will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 15 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14 at Knight-Confer.
