Ellen M. (Floyd) Evans

     Ellen Marie Evans, 81, of Benton Township died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at home, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband of five years, Carl A. Fritz, on July 16, 1961, and her second husband of 36 years, Bruce N. Evans, on Dec. 12, 2000.

     Born March 15, 1936, at home in Benton Township, she was a daughter of the late David F. and Ruth I. (Force) Floyd.

     Ellen was a 1954 graduate of Benton High School and received a certificate in Intro to IBM Compatible Computers from Bloomsburg University in 1996. She worked for the former Dockeys, now Milco, and Benton Water Authority as a secretary.

     As a lifelong Christian, she was a member of Benton Methodist Church, where she formerly sang soprano in the choir and later attended Rohrsburg Christian Church.

     Ellen grew up on the family farm in Benton Township.  She and her husband, Bruce, enjoyed traveling the world and going on cruises. She loved spending time outside mowing her lawn and had a passion for working in her flower garden. She enjoyed quilting, watching the Little League World Series, was a New York Yankees fan, and was an avid shoe collector. Most of all, she loved and cherished spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Surviving are her three daughters: Lonna D. Hess (Jeffrey), of Orangeville, Lori A. O’Handley (Michael), of Benton, Chris E. Evans-Rook (Neil), of New Bern, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Erin L. O’Handley, Jeremy S. Hess (Lynn), Nevin R. Hess (Marisa), Kristen M. Hess, Matthew R. Rook  and Daniel D. Rook; three great-granddaughters: Sierra R. Loftus, Madisyn L. Hess and Evangeline E. Hess; and many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Ann Floyd, on Aug. 5, 1932, and a brother, David Lee Floyd Jr., on Nov. 29, 1984.

     A funeral service to honor the life of Ellen will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at McMichael Funeral Home Inc.,  4394 Red Rock Road, Benton. Burial will immediately follow in the Benton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at McMichael Funeral Home Inc.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s name to Benton Methodist Church, 350 Main St., Benton, PA 17814; or Rohrsburg Christian Church, 636 A Rohrsburg Road, Orangeville, PA 17859; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
