Constance Snyder Obituary

Constance M. Snyder of Montoursville passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 1, 2019. Born in Frackville, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph and Valare Matlavage and the wife of Charles W. Snyder. She is survived by four children; Cimberly Rorison, Charles J. Snyder, Carol S. Coffman and Constance Smith, ten grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Connie graduated from Penn State University class of 1953 and served frequently as a substitute teacher in the Loyalsock school district. She was active in the Junior League, having edited and worked on several books about the Williamsport area. She was known for her cooking and 'themed' parties, an expert quilter and traveled the world with her husband. She became interested in the form of government in Williamsport and was instrumental in the Charter Commission study and subsequent referendum that approved to switch to a "Mayor-Council Plan A" form of government. She ran for city council in 1971 and as the top vote getter was the first woman ever elected to serve on Williamsport City Council. She will be remembered as a generous lady who cared deeply for her family and community.
