LaRue Meyer Obituary

LaRue F. “Shakey” Meyer, 87, of Williamsport, died Thursday October 31, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruth E. (Fries) Meyer on July 23, 2007.

Born, March 8, 1932, in Cogan House, he was a son of the late C. Morris and Louise K. (Nienhueser) Meyer.

LaRue was a graduate of Liberty High School. After high school LaRue served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. LaRue retired after many years as a foreman for PennDOT. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching westerns.

Surviving are a son LaRue F. “Fred” Meyer Jr. (Jodie) of Williamsport; two daughters, Ellen Burson (Frankie) of Milton and Beth A. Slegle (Paul Karichner) of Salladasburg; a sister Fae M. Waltz (Lloyd) of Montoursville, four grandchildren, Ericka Van Pelt (Alan), Geoff Slegle, Alicia Moyer (Bill), and Jacob Meyer; three step grandchildren Toni Mann (Scott), Teri Campbell (Ian), and Melissa Stryker (David); three great grandchildren Bryleeann Slegle, Remington Slegle, and Porter Alan Van Pelt; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, LaRue was preceded in death by a brother Dennis C. Meyer, and a sister Jean M. Crist.

A funeral service to honor the life of LaRue will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday November 5, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave Williamsport. Burial will follow in Cogan House Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in LaRue’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
