Steven "Steve" Barner Obituary

Steven "Steve" W. Barner, 73, of Williamsport, a veteran, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. Born on July 15, 1950 in Loganton, he was the son of John C. and Frances G. (Lodge) Barner.

Steve served in the National Guard and was a proud graduate of Penn College (WACC) where he received an Associate Degree in Computer Science. After retiring as a computer operator from Textron, he became a co-founder of Williamsport Auto Sales & Services where he directed the auto purchasing program. While at the "shop," he made lasting friendships with many customers, colleagues, and vendors. He was also a member of numerous organizations including The Ivy Lodge #106, The Masonic Temple #397, the Sugar Valley Social Club, the Loggia Giosue Carducci #146, and the NRA.

Steve had a passion and talent for hunting and fishing. As an avid outdoorsman, Steve spent time reloading, fly tying, and processing his own game meat. He took great pride in passing this valuable knowledge to his children and grandchildren. Some of his favorite hunting spots were in the White Deer Creek area and on his family land. On a sunny day, Steve could be seen riding his beloved Goldwing dressed with patriotic flags and he never missed a 9/11 memorial ride. Out of all his hobbies, he took particular interest in his six grandchildren whom he loved immensely. Steve never missed a grandchild’s birthday. He cherished his family and friends made along the way and will be loved and missed by those who knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Linda A. (Kinley) Barner; a son, Craig Barner (Kelly) of Shrewsbury, MA, a daughter, Kristie Miller (Marc) of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Skye Miller (Nick Pompeo), Kaydie Miller, Landen Miller, Anna Barner, Timothy Barner, and Joseph Barner; and a brother, Boyd Barner (Young). Steve was preceded in death by his parents John and Frances.

The family intends to honor Steve’s memory with a final ride led by fellow vets and ending at his place of internment followed by a private celebration of life. Friends and family are invited to view the procession. Please contact the family for details.
