Gary Day Obituary

Gary W. Day, 74, of Nisbet, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Anne M. (Noviello) Day.

Born February 13, 1950, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Shirley M. (Berish) Day.

Gary attended South Williamsport Area School District. Gary proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran beginning at the age of 18. His bravery and skill were recognized with numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and he was noted as a Sharpshooter with the M-16 Rifle and Expert with the M-14 Rifle.

After his honorable military service, Gary began working at Jacob Gehron Company. He also played a significant role in his community as a member of the Local #1180 Laborers Union, and later became its business agent.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and had previously attended First United Methodist Church, Nisbet. Gary was an active member of the VFW Post #7863, Duboistown. Gary was an avid Nascar fan, enjoying the races. In his free time, he also enjoyed watching baseball, most especially his son and grandsons, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Most of all Gary loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Charles W. Day, II (Jennifer) of Williamsport and Talia R. Day of Nisbet; three grandchildren, Makai, Leiana, and Nygel; two brothers Keith D. Day (Linda) of Nisbet and Richard A. Day (Deb) of Montoursville; two sisters Becky A. Oeler (Rich) of Montoursville, and Nancy L. Stout (Jim) of South Williamsport.

A memorial service to honor the life of Gary will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 22 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
