Bernadine Carr Obituary

Bernadine E. Carr,85, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at UPMC Williamsport, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carr.

Born July 26, 1938, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Bernadine (Zettlemoyer) Miller.

She was a graduate of the Williamsport Area High School and furthered her education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, where she earned an associate's degree in Social Services. Her commitment to the well-being of her community was evident through her remarkable 45-years as a school bus driver for Susquehanna, where she ensured the safe transport of countless children, whom she treated as her own.

A woman of deep faith, Bernadine was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. Her involvement with the church was just one of the many ways she expressed her devotion to her community.

Bernadine's passion for community service extended beyond her professional life. She was recognized for her outstanding contributions when she received the prestigious Woman of the Year award from the American Business Women's Association. Her leadership skills shone brightly as she guided young minds in her role as a Girl Scout leader. Moreover, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to become a successful Avon representative, and she was also a member of the Zafar Grotto.

Surviving are two children, Kathern R. Cook and Owen J. Rutan, both of South Williamsport; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. She also leaves behind a devoted daughter-in-law, Melanie Rutan, of Linden.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Carl D. Rutan, and her siblings, John, William, and Donald Miller, and her sister, Delight Fisher.

In keeping with her wishes, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
