The Rev. Larry D. Cole

May 22, 1941 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old

     The Rev. Larry D. Cole, 76, of Montoursville, died, Monday, August 7, 2017, at his home.

     Born May 22, 1941, in Omaha, Neb., he was a son of the late Willis Ransom and Esther Violet Margaret (Carlson) Cole.

     Larry was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Korea as a military chaplain assistant. He received his Bachelors of Science in 1978 from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and his Masters of Divinity in 1983 from St. Paul School of Theology. He was ordained as a  deacon in 1981 and as an elder in 1986 in the Nebraska Annual Conference. In 1992 he transferred to the former Central Pennsylvania Conference now Susquehanna Conference where he had served until his retirement in 2004. He began serving Newberry UMC from 1992-1994. In 1995 he relocated to the Pennsdale and Huntersville area until 1999, where he again relocated to the former Calvary UMC of Williamsport until his retirement in 2004. After his retirement he served the Lock Haven and Flemington area until 2014. Most recently his church affiliation has been with First United Methodist Church, Muncy.

     Larry was instrumental in beginning Sojourner Truth in Williamsport. He was an AA sponsor for 25 years and was active in Bible studies, mentoring, and counseling. 

     Surviving are his wife, Sharon A. Gensib; a son, Bradley D. Cole (Nicole), of Montgomery; step-daughter, Angela J. Muller (Tony), of Milford, Neb.; six grandchildren, Tanner, Dakota, Peyton, Ryleigh, Paxton, and Chandler; a brother, Neil Cole (Karen), of St. George, Utah, and Judy Ricchiardi (Terry), of Gretna, Neb.

     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Scott Cole and Gregory James Cole.

     A funeral service to honor the life of Larry will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, at First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, with the Rev. Arlene P. Beechert officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the funeral service at the church. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 13, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport and from 10-10:45 a.m., Monday at First United Methodist Church, Muncy.

     Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

     In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to First United Methodist Church, 602 S.
