Larry N. Crider, 73, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at ManorCare Health Services South.
Born August 12, 1943, in Virginia, he was a son of the late Norman J. and Julia C. (Cronister) Crider.
Larry was a 1962 graduate of South Williamsport High School. There he was a member of the vocal ensemble and the mixed choir. Pursing music further he was taught to play the organ by his music director, David Smith. He eventually played the organ for church services in Pennsylvania and in Florida.
He was a member of the former First Baptist Church, of Williamsport where from childhood up he sang in all the choirs. He sang for many years in the sanctuary choir of which for a while he was president and librarian. He also, for a period of time, directed the children’s choir.
He was also an associate member of Faith Baptist Church, of Homosassa Springs, Fla., where he was a member of the adult choir and assistant organist.
Two of his main interests were singing in gospel quartets and playing gospel music on the organ.
At one time he was on the bowling team for the First Baptist Church, of Williamsport and he was also a member of a camping club called Camp-A-Lot where he helped with the church services at camp.
Surviving are two aunts, Vivian Smith, of Fla. and Marian Sorensen, of Lock Haven; and several cousins.
A funeral service to honor the life of Larry will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 7, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Woolrich Cemetery.
