June L. (Hockney) Alsted

June L. Alsted, 96, died peacefully Monday, March 4, 2013 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville, with her family by her side.  
   Born in Silver Lake, WI, January 5, 1917, she was the daughter of Chester and Edith Schenning Hockney.
    June graduated from Wilmot High School in Wilmot, WI and the Academy of Cosmetic Art in Milwaukee, WI in 1936.  In October 1939 she married Harold J. Alsted of Truesdell, WI in the First Methodist Church, Kenosha, WI.
    Harold and June and their two sons were relocated to Williamsport in 1951 by Harold’s employer, Sprout-Waldron & Co. Inc.  Harold and June traveled extensively as the company opened new markets worldwide.  Harold retired in 1976 as Senior Vice President, and thereafter consulted for the company in China.  He died in 1986.  The family resided on Grampian Blvd. where June lived for over 50 years.
    June was a faithful member of Pine Street United Methodist Church where she was Co-Chair of the Altar Guild for many years, a member of the United Methodist Women and served as a Greeter and faithful volunteer for the Bazaars and Food Fairs.  June also was an active volunteer for years with the Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary and served on the boards of the Florence Crittendon Home, and the Visiting Nurses.  She belonged to the Woman’s Club from 1953 to 1998, the Clio Club, Lycoming County Historical Society, and Friend’s of J.V. Brown Library.  Her hobbies were gardening, writing poetry, and corresponding with her friends around the world.
    Surviving are sons; H. William (Eleanor), of Williamsport and Donald E. (Ann) of Jackson, Wyoming; grandsons, Mathew B. (Lisa), Thomas H. (Denise), and four great-grandchildren; Tyler, Linnea, Abigail, and Ethan, and nieces and nephews in Wisconsin.
    A private service and burial in Wildwood Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
    In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to James V. Brown Library, 36 East Fourth St., Lycoming County Historical Society, 858 West Fourth St. or charity of your choice in remembrance of June.
