Hello. I'm writing to the entire family of Mr.James. He was my favorite teacher and I learned to be a better musician, and person thru his teaching at WM.Penn Sr. High School in York ,Pa. He was the best and I'm sorry for the lateness on this note to you all but I just found out he passed away. He made the bands low brass section leader my senior year and I was so proud our our band. I went on to have a very good drum and bugle corps marching career in the Crossmen and the Santa Clara Vanguard. I thank you all for sharing him with us in York . We all loved him and truly appreciate the great educator and man he was . You all have my sincere condolences.
Thank you kindly...R.I.P. Mr. James...

Hal came to the Williamsport Area School District highly recommended by then music supervisor, Dr. Kenneth R. Raessler (WCU '54) and became a significant contributor to the development of the district-wide instrumental music program. Hal was very effective teaching and nurturing budding musicians and developing in them a desire to master their instruments. The reputation and community support which the WASD music program enjoys today is part of Hal's eternal legacy.
He also was an expert fellow fly fisherman, from whom I learned much about our shared passion. We had many conversations about his stream improvement efforts, rod-building techniques and his "signature" flies. I regret that we never spent time on the stream together; it would have been very special for me.
Hal will be missed, but not forgotten. Oscar Knade, WCU, '54

Jeannie and family,

I always enjoyed working with Hal during his time in the WASD in what seems like a lifetime ago. He was a respected educator, a gentleman, and a family man. I remember receiving several notes from him with his annual dues payment during the short time I was Secretary of Ivy Lodge No. 397. He lived a good life. You and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.
