Born March 18, 1929 in Williamsport, he was a son of Marshall D. and Kathryn (Siegel) Welch, Sr. He married Mary (Lindsay) Welch in 1954 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 9 of this year.
Dr. Welch graduated high school from Staunton Military Academy, Staunton, VA. He attended Gettysburg College, where he was also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in 1954. After dental school, he served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Philadelphia and Adak, Alaska during the Korean War.
Dr. Welch opened his orthodontic practice in Williamsport in 1958 and for 47 years enthusiastically served the Williamsport and Bloomsburg areas until his retirement in 2005.
Dr. Welch may best be remembered for being a philanthropist, contributing to many organizations, charities, and educational institutions throughout his life.  He was a member of the Williamsport Rotary and had served on the board of the Williamsport Water Authority for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking and metalworking. He and Mary always welcomed their many friends in the beloved workshop. Dr. Welch simply loved Williamsport and the surrounding north central PA area. He could never understand why anyone would want to live anywhere else.

Welch, III of Williamsport, two grandchildren Abigail and Marshall D.
