Doris Dixon Obituary

Doris M. Dixon, 92, of Williamsport, formerly of Linden, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family following her courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Dixon on Oct. 22, 2014.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Dora (White) Younkin.

Doris graduated from Williamsport High School and was a member of Bethel Linden Presbyterian Church.

She was formerly employed at Sylvania in Halls Station and the West Company, in Montgomery. Soon thereafter, she met the man who would be the love of her life, John C. Dixon, with whom she would share 46 years of marriage. John taught Doris to fly, and stood by her side on the path to becoming a licensed pilot. Together, they had the opportunity to travel the world and spend their winters in Florida. In their spare time, Doris and John enjoyed camping with their family and grandchildren at Pine Creek. Together they built the home of their dreams in Linden.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda L. Persun, of Williamsport, Cynthia L. Dorey, of Fayettville, Arkansas, and Tina M. Burkholder (Tim Jensen), of Williamsport; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a step-son, Ronald R. Dixon (Tuy), of Florida; a step-daughter, Shirley Miller, of Montoursville; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Persun, and a sister-in-law, Bernice Kibbe.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Allen Stephen Persun "Steve"; a daughter, Teresa L. Persun; two brothers, Alfred "Punk" Younkin and Ronald Younkin; a sister, June Hannen; and a step-daughter, Joyce Wolyniec.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doris will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name to Bethel Linden Presbyterian Church, 2758 Bottle Run Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or Susquehanna Health Foundation, c/o Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williampsort, PA 17701.
